Bigger Fish to Fry

Monday, October 6th, 2008

You want a humbling experience? Take your camera, that “won’t turn on” to the Geek Squad over at Best Buy. Go ahead and tell them that your camera won’t turn on and the battery appears to be charged (so says the charger) so you’re not sure if it’s the charger, the battery, or the camera. Please, won’t you test it for me and find out what’s going on? says the very pregnant woman to the Geek.

I’ll skip ahead to the good part for you: it turns out that it’s important to place the battery in the charger so the little prongy things are lined up. Very important.

If you don’t, the charger might say the battery is charged, but it’s lying. And even though it’s lying to you, a very impolite thing to do, you’re still the dummy for believing it.

And this is just the kind of experience I recommend you start off your week with. Be humbled, laugh out loud at yourself, and move on to bigger fish.

p.s. working on a shop update today. check in later to see if i actually did it!

Blessed With Friends

Friday, October 3rd, 2008

You all have made my day. Thank you so much for your kind emails and phone calls checking up on us and our health. How unexpected and truly delightful.

I’m happy to say that we’re all doing wonderfully. I’m my usual healthy, though roughly 40 pounds heavier than normal self. Neil is a bit headachey and reeking of celery due to a new smoothie infatuation, but quite well otherwise. And I’m really really happy to say that Dash never caught a wiff of the nasty virus and continues to be his charming blond self.

Couldn’t be better, thanks for asking.

And now it’s Friday, or as we say around here, “TGIF BABY!” (started as a joke meant to get me through tough days at the office and now it’s a phrase we couldn’t make it through the week without).
Stayed up late (for me) last night watching the debate with friends. I was somewhat saddened that she didn’t make an ass out of herself like I wanted her to. Oh well, I think she still showed which of the two would make a better second in command (or first if it ever came down to it) and, coincidentally, it wasn’t her. (aside: i don’t know what i will do if i hear “maverick” out of their mouths one more time, but it won’t be pretty. i’m hoping they keep using it, though, so as to sabotage themselves.)

An interesting link (thanks Tracey) for anyone wanting to read about white privilege as it relates to the election.

So as I was saying before… it’s the weekend! Can I get a Woo Hoo!? Can I?
I’m really hoping to hit this church rummage sale tomorrow morning (completely skipping pilates!). Keep your fingers crossed that I have some fun goodies to share with you for Monday.
Friends coming by on Sunday for some homemade pizza and some baby bonding (hopefully). Think there’s time for apple picking or maybe a walk on the beach? I do.

What are you all doing this weekend?

Saved by the Blue Bird

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

Did you ever have one of those days where you have two hours of sleep to work with, a nasty gastrointestinal virus kicks you all over, and your camera won’t turn on anymore?

Me too! Like today for instance.

Don’t worry, I’ll spare you the details, and just sum it up with: yuck, yuck, and more yuck.

So that’s how my rainy day was going up until just a few minutes ago when I found out that I won a beautiful wool felting kit from Selena over at Apron Thrift Girl. It’s the makings of an adorable bluebird from Wool Pets (love that website!) and I can’t wait to give it a go. It’s much like the bluebird in the banner of my shop, only soft and felty.

All I’m saying is everyone needs a bluebird of happiness in their lives and I’m pleased to welcome this one into mine while simultaneously kicking this virus out the door.

A Laugh for Monday

This is why I love Passive Agressive Notes and wish I had thought to start that website.

I’d be laughing all day with these submissions.

Hello September!

Friday, September 19th, 2008

And with it comes the chilly mornings, limited hours of sunshine, and cool evenings. How can there be a frost warning and still my tomatoes haven’t even turned red? Some have, of course, and we’ve been enjoying those daily, as one must do when one harvests a dozen a day. But still, the green prevails.
Time to make sauce, put the pesto in the freezer, and cut all the perennials down. Um, yeah, I’ll get to that… tomorrow? After I make the granola:

(Ha! Just checked Amanda’s site and she’s talking about the same thing except with a whole lot more get-up-and-go and better photos. Such is the life.)

This weekend will find us all over the darned state; chasing fame in Buckfield: Neil is a featured guest of the Early Evening Show at the Oddfellow Theatre on both Friday and Saturday. He’ll be singing his songs and tellings stories, come on out and have a listen if you’re around.
And he plays Sunday at the Common Ground Fair. It’s our fall tradition to go there anyway, we just happen to have this extra fun opportunity to add to it. He’ll be on the Children’s stage at 3pm.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone! And what are you all doing on this fine early-Fall weekend?
